How to Maximize Your Dental Insurance in Dallas

saving moneyOver 60% of the U.S. population has some form of private dental insurance, and other than knowing that it can help them save on their dental care, most people have very little idea about how it actually works, and this could be preventing them from maximizing their benefits. At Kwon Dental, your dentist in Dallas is dedicated to making high-quality dentistry affordable for everyone, so on this page, we’re going to cover the basics of dental insurance so you can know how to effectively use your plan to save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on your care with us every year.

Do you accept dental insurance?

This is a question we get every day, so we thought it would be best to answer it upfront.

Yes, we accept all dental insurance plans from major providers, and we’re even in-network with Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, and United Healthcare.

What does it mean to be “in-network” with a provider?

It simply means that Kwon Dental has a contract with a provider for them to cover part of the services used by our patients who are insured by them.

What does this mean for our patients?

It means that if you have a plan with any of the in-network providers we just mentioned, we’ll be able to use your dental insurance to save you even more money than an out-of-network practice. Basically, if you want to get the most out of your plan, you should always visit an in-network practice.

What is the best way to use my dental insurance?

Dental insurance differs slightly from traditional medical insurance in that it is mostly focused on the prevention of dental problems rather than the treatment. This is why most plans will cover preventive services like checkups and cleanings either completely or mostly while only covering restorative procedures, such as crowns and fillings, about 20-70% (depending on your plan).

This is because A.) Preventive care is much more affordable than restorative care, and B.) Prevention has been shown to not only help a person avoid dental problems (and therefore the need for more expensive procedures), but also improve their overall health.

Research has shown time and time again that a healthy mouth often leads to a healthy body, so by taking care of your teeth preemptively and getting your recommended two checkups and cleanings per year, you’ll not only save more on your care and reduce your overall costs thanks to your insurance, but you’ll also be taking better care of your body. That’s what we call a win-win!

How can I know how much/which procedures my plan will cover?

You can either read over your policy yourself, contact your provider, or simply give Kwon Dental a call. Our team is very familiar with all kinds of insurance plans, so we’ll be able to tell you exactly how much you’re covered and for what at our office so when it comes time to pay, there will be no surprises.

How do I actually use my dental insurance?

This is probably the easiest part of dental insurance, at least when it comes to our office. To use your insurance with us, all you need to do is mention your policy when you make your appointment or bring your insurance ID card when you come in. We always recommend that our patients call ahead so we can confirm their benefits before they want to receive treatment.

When you use your dental insurance with us, we’ll make it as simple as possible. We’ll file the claim, handle the paperwork, and work directly with your provider to get the absolute most we can out of your coverage.

Have any more questions?

Hopefully this cleared up many of the questions you had about your dental insurance. If you still have more, we would love to answer them! Simply contact us today with your policy information handy, and if you’d like, you can even book an appointment at the same time.
